Oh Hey, Friday [Winter Favorites]

Happy Friday, y’all! I am feeling so much better this week. After a week like last week, it was the best thing to be free and be allowed to do what I want – even go to work! I was stranded yesterday (my car is sick), and I felt just how cruddy it is to be cooped up in the house. However, this time around, I did a little cleaning, organizing, and…online shopping!

I’m currently loving my job, but actively searching for another. I am in a field that is the opposite of my current field of study, and I  need, more than anything, to get an internship in my field. So, as winter fell upon us just two days ago, I began to look for some cute winter staples that will help get me through a few interviews, and hopefully will come along with me as I venture into a new position soon! I’ve been stalking different style blogs for some must-have pieces, and I’ve been checking in on some of my favorite stores (GAP, Loft, and J Crew, to be exact) for some good sale prices! I’m still on the hunt for one particular piece, but first let’s see what I’m bringing to my closet in the next few weeks!

[one] Starburst Jeweled Sweatshirt

imageServiceI am so excited to get home to this beauty on my front porch! This sweater from Loft will be the perfect winter addition. It’s perfect for layering, which is great for someone who works in a chilly office (me) and who likes to layer it up whenever possible (me)! It’s currently 40 percent off online, as well as everything else in the store, so check it out!

[two] Voila! Tee

cn8028857

This is a bit of a fun one for me; when I graduated in May, I pretty much cleared out my closet from any fun tees. Not only that, but I also tossed a lot of my college tee shirts as well, mainly because they had aged after four years of constant wear! So, in a grown up manner, I am adding back in just a few cute statement tees for nights out and weekends running errands. This tee from Old Navy is simple, cute, and not too obnoxious! It’s also on sale, but only because they’re almost sold out!

[three] Ribbed Cowl Scarf

cn8849501

I am in love with this scarf. I cannot lie. It is just simple, and cute, and will go with anything (thankfully). I foresee myself wearing this scarf daily, and I might even grab another before the season is over. If there is anything that gets cold on my body first, it’s my neck. And it gets painful. So this little buddy is going to be my lifesaver this year! It’s on sale at GAP right now for $19.00, and they’re also running a 30 percent off deal!

[four] Women’s Frost Free Quilted Vest

cn8149039

I don’t even know what to say here. I think this is just a piece everyone should own! Sometimes, it’s not quite cold, but it’s not quite warm either, and you still feel like adding some layers. A simple puffer vest is THE way to go. I already have this piece, and for the past few weeks where it’s gone between 40 and 60 degrees, this jacket has been a life saver. It’s cute, easy to layer over a sweater, and when you add a scarf on top, it’s just the right amount of warm. This jacket is only $20.00 from Old Navy right now, and they are also having a little percent off sale!

[five] Shearwater Boots

B4223_GY6754

This last item is my final must-have, but also the only item I do not own. Up until last year, or even the last two years, it wasn’t necessary to own snow boots. In fact, even now it’s not really necessary to own some crazy, heavy-duty boots like I had when I lived in Ohio. However, these shearwater boots are perfect. They aren’t too tall, they have a shearling lining for some added warmth, and a waterproof sole so that you can walk through the slush and “snow” that central Kentucky gets during the winter. They would be the perfect addition to my shoe collection…if it weren’t for the $150 price tag. So, I am hoping that J. Crew throws out a little Black Friday online sale (because I refuse to step foot in the mall on that day), and that before the big storms roll through, I will be the new proud owner of some stylish, practical boots!

What are some of your winter must-haves? I love to see what styles everyone finds as they find themselves having to bundle up! Have a happy Friday!

Oh Hey, Friday [Halloweenie’s]

Happy freaking Friday, everyone! If I said this has been one hell of a week, who here would agree? Well, as I imagine a classroom full of hands flying into the air, let’s take a moment to celebrate all that is the weekend…and Halloween!

[one] I am really disappointed to say this, but…we totally forgot to carve pumpkins this year! I was so ashamed when Zach and I made the realization on Monday night. What kind of Halloween freaks are we if we don’t get our pumpkin on?! It’s ok though, today I have vowed to drink nothing but pumpkin spice EVERYTHING.

[two] I am also not dressing up as anything this year. HOW PATHETIC! We live in a neighborhood that is filled with little ones (and my parents do, too), but we just haven’t gotten out to hand out candy at all since we started dating. Zach has never handed out candy, mostly because he is a candy hoarder, but even if we did, tonight would not be the candy-handing-out type of night. Freezing temperatures plus rain equals…snow. Yep. I said it. Snow. No trick or treating for us!

[three] Also, although I have every opportunity to go out, drink, dress up, have a great night, and eat lots of candy with my friends, I think I am going to make it an introvert’s Halloween at the Jones household. This means I will be drinking, dressing up (in my pajamas), having a great night watching Halloween movies, and eating lots of candy by myself. SCORE.

[four] All I have to say is, if any small children ring my doorbell, all they get is the sound of a hyperactive husky barking like a maniac. Happy Halloween? (I’ll be too busy languishing in my Reese’s Miniatures coma).

[five] The best part of Halloween is, tomorrow morning, when I wake up, Jack Skellington will have brought me the best Hallow-Mas present ever…CHRISTMAS MUSIC ON THE RADIO! Mix-mas starts on the radio tomorrow morning, and our city is split in half; those who will be tuned in to 94.5 from now til Christmas Day, and those who will take the station off their presets until January first. Happy holidays!

(And Happy Friday!)

Oh Hey, Friday! [Dreaming]

Hello and…HAPPY FRIDAY! We’ve made it. Hallelujah emoji right about…here.

sdafawerI can’t believe this week is already over; probably just another benefit of skipping a boring Monday! This week has been filled with wedding planning, school stress, and an overload of papers on my desk at work, so today I am going to get my Oh Hey, Friday on with a little time to focus on some dreams of mine!

[one] Zach and I have been talking a lot about the future lately, and not just in the obvious wedding-tone way. We – well, I – have been talking about what we want to do with our lives. Great topic for two individuals who have already graduated from a higher education institution, right?! So anyways, this all boils down to the fact that I generally despise grad school and I’m still not sure that I’m in the right program. It’s all fun to learn, but I’m just not sure it’s where I can see myself working. Issue here? My undergrad degree will get me nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. So, I have to do something. My dream? I want to write. I don’t care what, and I don’t care how, but I just want to write. I have had stories floating through my head since I was a child, and I was a part of the creative writing class throughout high school. Why I never continued throughout college is a question that has been at the top of my mind lately, but I guess hindsight is 20/20, right? Dream number one: writing (as my day job).

[two] I think that this one falls in the category of dreams for everyone, but I think it’s necessary to write out; I want to travel. I want to explore places far and near, and I want to do so at my own pace. I want to guide my own tours, I want to live like the locals, and I want to eat delicious food. I want to visit Italy and Ireland; I want to walk where Shakespeare walked and I want to see the beauty of Santorini. I want to go to Brazil and experience the sights and sounds – and food! I just want to go, go, go. And I have to say I got lucky to find one person to spend my life with who wants to see it all with me.

[three] I want to have a family (which goes without saying). I mean, I’m not looking for kids in a year, or even two years. Maybe I’ll think about it around 25, but for now, I will just dream about the curly-headed kids I will have and raise with my curly-headed fiancé.

[four] I will – I repeat, I WILL – own a pug someday. This has been my biggest dream yet, and Zach can definitely attest to that. We almost adopted a dog in late August, but decided not to do so yet. With our schedules, that poor pup would never have any fun free time! But someday, I will own a pug (or a puggle, or a pughuahua [Chihuahua/pug mix that I totally made up]) and I will love that dog for all of its life. This is a dream that will easily become a reality.

[five] My last dream is already coming true, although very slowly, and it’s very cheesy. I’m going to spend the rest of my life with my absolute best friend; the person I could not live without, the person who talks me off the ledge and who gets me laughing when I need it the most. But most of all, I get to spend my life with someone who pushes me to pursue the dreams I have while also keeping a tight grip on reality. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better dream come true than my life with my best friend.

Happy Friday!

Oh Hey, Friday! [Personalizing the Office]

It’s Friday, it’s Friday! La la la! I feel like I’ve ben waiting for this day all of my life. The hardest week of grad school (thus far) is over with, I’m half way through my semester, and in one week, MY BEST FRIEND WILL BE HERE! Granted, I still haven’t got the room ready (trip to IKEA, anyone?), but it doesn’t mean I can’t get pumped for the arrival of my BFF and her man! Let’s get to my five for this week, which is all about making my office my own space.

[one] I have been at my job for going on four months now, and the only personalization I’ve done is move the existing furniture around, and bring in a cute desk calendar. I have decided that I’d like to spice it up a little, because my space is pretty dull. I’m the only woman in our part of the office, so it makes me feel weird to put effort into my space, but honestly, some days I just can’t even want to be here because it’s so dull! Let’s bring back a nice littler reminder of what my space looks like.

office;aoisdhf[Side note: that was really fun to take…and my first successful panoramic shot!] As you can see, it’s a spacy office, but I literally have little to no personal touches. As of today, I’ve decieded a little bit of “me” in the office won’t hurt.

[two] The first thing on my list? Switch up the desk. Instead of keeping the computer where it is, I am going to push it (and the tower, mouse, and keyboard) to the back left corner. That will give me the desk space I want (it may look empty, but each time I try to write, I end up pushing my mouse and keyboard back and forth). I am also going to lift my computer just a bit with the help of a riser so that I am not hunching over the screen. I am also considering moving my bookshelf to the other side of my desk or further back against my back wall in order to allow me to push my desk against the wall.

[three] I am going to bring some unused picture frames (two for my desk and a large one for my wall) from home, as well as a picture of my family (which will be replaced again in November when we have new family pics taken) and a picture of Zach and I (after the engagement session). The big frame is already filled with random shots of family and friends.

[four] I am going to give myself a few fun things on the desk as well. I am going to get a personalized notebook to put on the right side for some personal notes or writing; really, whatever I fancy at the time. I got an English degree for a reason, might as well use it! On the bottom left corner of my desk, I am going to switch out inspirational quotes, pictures, or just something that’ll get my brain and motivation going. I want to make this a space that I want to come to, and when I’m here I want to feel inspired. I’m going to replace my dingy mouse pad too; not to diss Marathon (my aunt works for them!), but I need some color in my life! I also want just a little succulent for the top right hand corner of the desk. Getting some sunlight (from the window) and adding a little green will definitely help brighten my day!

[five] Finally, I want to create some space for my notes and a designated area for the clutter. I need to find a desk organizer that is cute and fun for the desk top (I can place it in front of my computer riser). I found one that I love, but, of course, it’s out of stock. So I’m on the lookout for cute, functional desk organization! I also want to give myself a space on my wall (near my desk, preferably) for a cork board. I want to have a place where I can keep my post-its, a little fun quote or two, and some of my must-have papers for the office. This way I can pull off my perpetual stickies form the computer frame!

It’s always easy to make your home office your own, but I’m just having trouble finding an appropriate way to personalize a space that still doesn’t feel like my own! How have you used your personality to spruce up your work place? I’d love to hear all about it in the comments!

Happy Friday!

Oh Hey, Friday! [The Discovery]

Happy Friday, everyone!

I think this post needs to start out with one statement and one statement only…

afaewf

Shew, now that I’ve got that off my chest (working in an office full of middle aged men means nobody understands my Mean Girls references), let’s get on to today’s Oh Hey, Friday topic of…

What Happens When Everyone and Their Mom Find’s Your Blog

[one] Just to preface the rest of this post, on Wednesday, I decided that, rather than use my personal Instagram (that’s filled with a lot of people who wish to stay out of the “lime light” that is this blog (sidenote: HA!), I should make a new Insta for this here blog! First mistake. Apparently when you make a new Instagram, it tells ALL OF YOUR INSTAGRAM FRIENDS. Therefore subjecting your fiancé’s co-worker (Hi, Aaron. Thanks for joining us.), sorority sisters (HI SIG KAPS!), and just about everyone to take a nice, long, personal look into your life.

asdfae

[two] How in the world do you deal with this? If you’re like me, you go back and forth between ALL SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS before realizing which one was the snitch. Thanks again, Instagram. Cool move. When I realized my two world’s were meeting in one fell swoop, I blushed pretty much for the remainder of the day, contemplated deleting the Instagram and making everything private, and got irrationally upset quite a few times.

[three] When you come to terms with the fact that, yes, everyone AND their mother (and maybe my mother? HI MOM) has in fact found your online diary, you’ll still be a little angry. But why? For me it was as simple as this: this blog was a way for me to just get whatever was on my mind out there without seriously driving my then-boyfriend out of his mind. Plus I LOVE WRITING. Duh. But I never really invited my friends to read said blog, besides Jess. Because she hears all about this stuff on the daily anyways. HOLLA. And I was OK with that. This was my place to just let loose, meet random other people from across the nation, and converge on all things “life”. Mishaps, sad times, happy times, adding to the family, getting ready to get married, funny stories, fantastic recipes, and just about a million glimpses into other people’s wardrobes/makeup bags/etc.

zdergtaetrgt

[four] I think that sometime yesterday afternoon, as I was finishing up a powerpoint final for class, I decided I would just have to suck it up. I know that not everyone who finds this blog, acquaintance or not, is going to hang around for all of time. And that’s ok (especially because some of those people from my real life will then reference this blog when they could have just been talking to me in person), because I just need a place to write it all down. And I am just too freaking lazy to actually write this in a journal. Which brings me to point number five…

[five] I LOVE GETTING FEEDBACK FROM Y’ALL. Seriously, I love linking up for Wedding Wednesday and getting some wonderful words of advice and encouragement. Not that I don’t get them from the people in my life already, but I know Zach really gets sick of wedding talk, and there’s only so much advice you can drag out of people. I love getting random comments from people who were just passing by and liked what they saw. I enjoy reading about you all, even if we never have (and never might) meet in person. If anything, the one thing that keeps me around is the idea that someone out there, even if they never comment or let you know they stopped by, might be positively affected by someone they can relate to. This blogging world is the perfect place for introverts like me to get out there and let people hear my voice, and I don’t plan on leaving just because my two worlds have collided.

I think that, while some may laugh at my rambling posts, and others may just skim them over, I can deal with people I know reading about my life. Just make sure that you still give me some face-time rather than thinking my entire life is written all over these pages!

As usual, linking up with Karli and Amy!

Oh Hey, Friday! [Ready for the Weekend]

Today, I’ve decided to link it up with Karli over at September Farm and Amy at The Farmer’s Wife! I am so happy to be getting back into the blogging-swing of things, and I figured what better way than wrapping up the work week and taking a look ahead at the weekend. Here we go!

[one] Today was a bit sporadic…as in Zach and I decided to visit one more wedding venue. I COULDN’T HOLD IT IN TILL WEDNESDAY! I won’t go into immense detail, but I will say, if you stop by on Wednesday, there will be an entire post dedicated to the elusive venue number four (!!!). 1896814_10152375825896149_2781333906639502709_n

[two] Last weekend was the beginning of personalizing the house, which means that (drumroll please)…

THIS WEEKEND I MOVE IN FOR GOOD! We’re renting the Uhaul (which reminds me I forgot to call and rent the Uhaul…) for the weekend, and moving the rest of my things to the house. Which is going to mean a whole lot of sorting, tossing, donating, and organizing. But, it means I’m finally living in one place, not between multiple.

[three] We’re going to a first birthday celebration on Sunday! Our little man Gavin turned one this week, and his parents had to find time to squeeze in a rockin’ party before little sister Dakota shows up in early November! We’re so excited to spend time with our friends this weekend.

[four] Sunday evening also means…BOOK CLUB NIGHT! Which also reminds me I am WAY behind on this month’s book. Whoops! Better get my butt caught up, because it’s a Skype/wine/movie night, and I am so looking forward to it!

dentist

[five] As much as I am looking forward to next week (the first week of October, my birth month, a HUGE shipment from IKEA landing on my doorstep…) I’ve got a date with the dentist Monday morning. Yay, fillings!

Can we just agree to keep the weekend party going for the next, say…month or two?

See you on Monday!

Five on Friday

Image

TGIF! I am so excited that in t minus 2 hours, I will be heading home for two relaxing days. Spring break starts next Wednesday, too, so there is extra excitement after having gotten this long week over with! Today, I am linking up with the wonderful women at The Good Life, A. Liz Adventures, Carolina Charm, and Hello! Happiness for another round of Five on Friday! This week has had me revolving around the thought of health and overall wellness, and after reading this post from Katie at Katie Elizabeth, I’ve gotten some inspiration and found five ways to improve my health this week!

[one] making regular appointments – and keeping them!

if you are anything like me, you have either been avoiding the dentist for a few years (yes, I brush my teeth, but the dentist and I have never been friends), or you didn’t realize that annual checkups should keep happening after you turn 13. For some reason, I didn’t know that, but after having a nice talk with my mom and being scolded for NOT seeing my primary in years (sorry, Dr. Blues), I’ve scheduled an appointment. I have a specialist who I see twice a year thanks to epilepsy, but other than those appointments, I have avoided doctors! Since I’ve grown in age and maturity, I’ve come to realize that doctors are your friends, and you should see them as often as possible. So, this week alone, I have made appointments with: my dentist, my primary, my women’s health physician, and yet another specialist (Gastroenterology. Look it up. Maybe I’ll post about it in the future, if it’s not too much of a scarring experience). Having made these appointments already has me feeling healthy and health-conscious, two aspects that my body will thank me for!

[two] skin care routines

I have already posted about my skin care routine here, but after writing that post, I made the decision to update my routine, and my makeup supply! Did you know that makeup can go bad? It seems like everyone but me already knew this, but late is better than never. With my new knowledge, I tossed over half (!) of my makeup supply, and brought it almost back to stock with some help from Ulta. I also decided to try some new skin care products, thus ridding myself of my St. Ives face scrub. I’ve added a nightly skin care routine that has honestly improved my skin SO MUCH. Ask me how many breakouts I’ve had in the past month and a half. That answer? None. Absolutely none! I love it, and I can’t wait to share it. There are some more products that I want to add to the routine, but those will have to wait until after the March spending hiatus.

Imagevia

[three] wardrobe update

So the whole idea behind working out and eating healthy is to lose weight and get fit, right? One big issue with that is that my jeans no longer fit; a blessing and a curse, I tell you. Although I can’t buy anything this month, I have began to make a list of quality clothing that I can use to replace my too-big shirts and pants. Plus, with grad school coming around the bend, I figure some professional items should make their way home to me. I won’t be buying anything in the too-near future, mostly because I want to be sure my size is staying put, but I’ll start to post some outfit ideas here to get some feedback!

[four] mental health breaks

Magazines and leisurely reading have honestly gotten me through this week; midterms started this week and end next Wednesday, so my workout schedule has sucked, in all honesty. I took a break in order to stick to working on projects, papers, and exams, so in my spare time I gave myself a break and took on some light reading. I plan on picking back up next week, and making it a permanent fixture in my schedule, but it has also been nice to just watch my eating habits, and to not shame myself for taking it easy. Stressing over your breaks only makes you feel worse; accept the breaks, enjoy them, but then push right back into the routine when the time comes.

Image

Holy middle school, Batman.

[five] friendships

I FINALLY get to see two of my best friends next Wednesday, as we are going to Cleveland for a concert. Getting to reunite with the two people who I grew up alongside and know better than most is going to be the most amazing way to begin a long week of relaxation. There really is nothing like a great friend.
